Es hat einen stechenden Geruch, der oft mit starken Haushaltsreinigern in Verbindung gebracht wird. Ammoniak (NH\u2083) ist leichter als Luft, kann aber aufgrund der starken Wasserstoffbindung zwischen den Ammoniakmolek\u00fclen leicht zu einer Fl\u00fcssigkeit kondensieren (die Wasserstoffbindung verleiht dem Wasser seine einzigartigen Eigenschaften). Impr\u00e4gnierte Aktivkohlen neutralisieren die \u00e4tzende Natur von Ammoniak (NH\u2083), indem sie eine einfache S\u00e4ure\/Base-Chemie verwenden und das Endprodukt der Reaktion in der Porenstruktur der Aktivkohle speichern.<\/p><p>Impr\u00e4gnierte Aktivkohlen sind bei der Entfernung von Ammoniak (NH\u2083) wirksamer als Standard-Aktivkohlen, da die hohe kinetische Energie der Ammoniakmolek\u00fcle bedeutet, dass es an Anziehungskraft auf Adsorptionsstellen im Porensystem mangelt. Durch die Impr\u00e4gnierung der Kohle werden diese Probleme beseitigt, da das Ammoniak (NH\u2083) durch die Reaktion zur Bildung eines Salzes eingefangen und an der Aktivkohleoberfl\u00e4che in einem reagierten Zustand zur\u00fcckgehalten wird.<\/p><p>Die standardm\u00e4\u00dfig verwendete impr\u00e4gnierte Aktivkohle zur Ammoniakentfernung ist die AddSorb\u2122 VB1 mit einer theoretischen Ammoniumaufnahme von mehr als 4 Gew.%.
